A good old-fashioned water change (natural sea water, natural seawater, NSW) is one of the most vigorous methods in preventing and treating all issues that a marine aquarium hobbyist is expected to come across. A routine water change (natural sea water, natural seawater, NSW) schedule can limit the majority of issues a marine tank owner might otherwise encounter. In our experience, the aquarium health problems that emerge in well maintained marine tanks are practically nothing in comparison to those that are ignored.
Furthermore, solely water changes (natural sea water, natural seawater, NSW) are all that is necessary to restore issues that emerge. Increasing the regularity of water changes may actually be the only thing you need to focus on when your fish and corals are stressed (e.g. not eating, pale, heavy breathing, corals receding or losing colour). It can also be the only thing necessary to help your marine fish to overcome a plethora of diseases. We have seen a number of cases where simply increasing your water changes has helped fungal infections and bacterial infections alone, without using any other medications or harmful chemicals. In addition, stepping back from the benefits of water changes to your livestock, it can actually not only control your algae growth but also eradicate it overtime.
